We often hear when talking to leaders across Housing Associations and other sectors about the challenges they face when looking to develop and hire diverse leaders.
Many cite the fact that their present recruitment methods and or partners are unable to attract the quality and the quantity of talent either from within the sector, or with the right skills, experience.
We were approached by a G15 Housing Association who wanted to focus on diversity across gender and ethnicity for an Executive Director level position.
We agreed to consider talent from both inside and outside the Housing sector, focussing on industries which might have transferrable skills, as well as those who had worked in highly regulated industries and these were the results produced from the search. From an ultimate longlist of 269, 40% came from a BAME background and 56% were Female.
By having a more representative, balanced shortlist the organisation were able to see a mix of skills, experience and options they otherwise might not have seen, allowing them to consider more diverse talent.
